History of saffron in Iran and the world

Some researchers believe that the origin of saffron in the world is the Median province of Iran. In contrast, some other researchers consider a wider range as the origin of world saffron, which includes Iran, Asia Minor, Turkey and Greece. In any case, Iran is the origin of saffron, both exclusively and jointly
It is interesting to know that it was the Iranians who introduced the world to saffron and its properties, because they sent saffron to different parts of the world, such as China, Rome, Greece and Arab countries, and introduced them to this wonderful plant. In addition, from the first to the fourth century AH, the Iranians taught the Muslims of the Mediterranean region how to grow saffron.
The Iranians, who were exiled around the Levant because of Mu’awiyah, started growing saffron in the same area for the first time in the world. Gradually, the crop expanded to Andalusia, Sicily, and North Africa, where saffron was cultivated. It is also good to know that Iranian tribes such as Bani Tabari and Rostamian had a significant impact on the spread of saffron cultivation.
